Why do people set New Year Resolutions every year and then mostly forget about them a week later? Is it really necessary to set up New Year Resolutions? Why can’t we just focus on New Year Goals instead of having plans like “New Year, new me” and put ourselves under so much pressure?

Let’s make it different this year and let’s have “New Year Goals” instead of “New Year Resolutions”, trust me it will make things easier for you. One thing I’ve learnt about setting goals is having bullet points is what pressures us the most, so this year instead of doing that we should have topic. Also, why do you wait a whole year to evaluate your goals and then get disappointed? Evaluating your results in quarter periods would make things easier and more effective I believe, because you can adjust your goals at an earlier stage.

Time

Don’t we all take time for granted? We waste it and then regret about it. I want to learn time management, it is something I am really bad at. Having a full time job and also trying to focus on blogging might be exhausting, however, if I can manage to use my time more efficient then it shouldn’t be hard to have time for everything.

Work

If you are unhappy with your job, search for a better one! You don’t want to carry on working in a job you hate and make yourself miserable. Focus on what makes you happy and try to lead your career towards that and don’t waste a second! I work as an engineer in a field I’ve wanted to work, am I happy? I couldn’t be unhappier, however, hopefully soon an action will be taken.

Health/Exercise

“Exercise more” is probably one of the most set goals, but how many of us actually achieve it? Having junk food, being lazy in front of the tv might sound tempting, but let’s change it this year and let’s do something good for our bodies. Eating more green and at least exercising 2-3 times a week for only 20 minutes can be a good start.

Experiment

I like to play safe, so if you are like me then you will know how hard it is to try new things, things that you haven’t tried before. Try new things, set yourself free and don’t let anything stop you from doing what you want. You only live once, so live it how you want it to be!

Travel

Travelling requires some budget, and it might be really hard if you are tight in budget, but you don’t need so much money to see places. You can take day trips or look for opportunities on Groupon or similar webpages. I want to see new countries and new places, this is one of the things I really want to do.

Blog

Blogging is still something new to me, I am still learning and trying to make things better. I don’t want to set up number goals, at least not for now. I want to improve my photography and focus on social media (I still don’t know how to use Twitter properly, shame on me!). I’ve always had passion for photography, however, blog photography is something I feel like I need to improve, especially the creative aspect of it.

These are the New Year Goals I set for myself. I believe they won’t put me under too much stress, but are still worth aiming for. I want to see how I do in 2-3 months time and then I can evaluate my goals and adjust them.

What do you think about setting new year resolutions? Have you got any new year resolutions or goals you want to achieve?
