They only protect my lips for an hour or two then I have to reapply it. When my lips need more hydration, I apply heavier lip balm like Nuxe Reve de Miel. It keeps the lips softer longer than this but it is over double the price. Vaseline lip balm can be another heavier alternative to this one.

If you have really dry lips and looking for a product that would give you the softest lips, then it might be a little disappointment for you. It is good for an everyday use and that peppermint scent is so refreshing.
