Let's Talk Biggest Beauty Regrets

What's beauty? Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Beauty can be a crucial thing. We all make beauty mistakes, however, when you look back to your old photos, do they turn into beauty regrets?
Looking back old photos can bring back good memories but they can also make you question your choices. Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking when I put on that makeup or wore something. As the time changes, our taste changes too. Can these beauty regrets be related to time change? Well, I don't think so.
Let's Talk Beauty Regrets
Orange Foundation - Seriously?
About 10-15 years ago, there weren't that many makeup brands and makeup product on the market. Foundation shades were limited and you were a lucky person if you had your colour match. I still struggle with finding my perfect match, so do you think I managed to find it back then? Well, apparently not... My neck and face were at least a few shades different. I don't remember anybody warning me about it. "Hey, why do you look that orange" would have been a good start. There are some photos that I avoid looking, I don't want to see an orange face! Now orange is the new black but back then it wasn't anything!
Unblended Eyeshadows
As I said earlier, 10-15 years ago, things were a little bit different. As usual, eyeshadows came with that sponge applicator which was useless as always. I didn't have many brushes, maybe the ones that came with my blush or so and some sponges. Think how hard it would be to apply powder eyeshadows with fingers or that tiny sponge applicator. How good can you blend it? You already know the answer. The harsh line is not really appealing!
Thin Brows - Over Plucking
Thin brows trend was a big thing, but it doesn't mean that it looked pleasing. Brows are important for defining the face, so it is best to define the brows. Can you imagine yourself without brows? Thin brows is not much different than having no brows. I wish I had listened to my mum when she told me not to over pluck my brows. I was a rebel teenager and I didn't listen to her. Some trends shouldn't be followed! Did you also follow this trend?
Powder or Do Not Powder
Flash photography shows the makeup flaws, so if you powder, make sure to apply it properly otherwise you will end up having white cast on the photos. You probably saw some celebrity photos which looks like ghost, that's what happens with unblended powder. I have some photos that I can see all the bits I applied powder. Over powdering is not good and it is best to avoid it!
Sleep with the Makeup On
After a long day, going to bed might be the only thing you want, but what about your makeup? Skin covered with foundation won't be able to breath which will result in breakouts. I guess I didn't really care about that. There were days I went to bed with makeup or just used a simple wet wipe to clean the makeup. Reaching to wet wipes is always the easiest option, isn't it? Seeing makeup marks on the pillow cover and looking at the mirror to see panda eyes... Not good memories!
Black Eye Pencil Can be Tricky!
Lining the waterline black and keep fixing it when it fades... I thought black eye pencil on the waterlines made my eyes look bigger and everyone was doing it! Following the crowd is one of the mistakes I did. Just because someone does something doesn't mean that it is right thing to do. Too much black pencil can make you look tired and give you panda eyes. It is not pleasing to look at...
Do not Pop the Pimples
How do you treat the pimples? Is popping them the easiest and most reliable option? I thought when I pop the pimples, it would get better faster. One after another, all it did was causing more spots and spot marks. I can't believe I didn't notice how wrong it was back then.
Dying Your Own Hair
If you know what you're doing, go ahead, but if you are a rookie... Better avoid it, especially lighter colours! It is one of the mistakes which turned my black hair into orange root and grey rest. I still don't know how it happened and in the end I had to pay so much money to hair dresser to get it look decent. They had to cut my hair because it was so damaged and the colouring to get rid of that ugly colour.
Maybe 10 years later, I will look at the photos from today and I question my decisions. Our taste changes, however, nothing will beat these beauty regrets. How was your makeup back in 10-15 years ago? Do you have any beauty regrets which make you question yourself?

Oh, I was a sucker for those little drugstore eyeshadows with the teeny brush applicators! I was 16-17 10 years ago, so obviously I couldn't afford MAC or the nicer brushes...so I would bring the eyeshadows with me to school and apply every few hours. Worse because I didn't have an eyeshadow primer and I thought it was a waste of money! I still do black eye pencil on my lower lashes, but not as heavy-handed. Don't get me started on thin eyebrows...I'm glad I didn't over pluck. My mom over plucked hers because thin brows were the "in" thing in the 70s, but then thick brows came back in the 80s! So I guess beauty/fashion recycles itself. Hannah Floraful
My mum always told me not to pluck my brows as I'd regret later on and I never listened to her. I wish I had then I wouldn't complain about thin brows now!
THE BROWS! I cringe when I look back at my tadpole brows in old photos. Emma | http://www.fluffandfripperies.com
Ah tell me about it...
Haha, I think that we all have some makeup regrets! I can relate to so many of yours... I used to always sleep with my makeup on as well, and what's worse, I didn't know about the existence of a makeup remover so I used to just use actual soap bars on my face to take the makeup off! Complete madness... Good old day haha, NOT! :P This post was a fun read, thank you for sharing, lovely. xoxo Kay http://shoesandglitter.com
We all make mistakes but sometimes I just wonder how I did them, what was I thinking :) xx
Instead of having thin brows, last year I managed to go full out on my brows with a brow pencil and looking at the pictures a year later makes me cringe. It was so thick that it looked unnatural! www.ashrealasitgets.blogspot.com
I had a similar stage as well, luckily I have black brows that it was hard to notice!
These are all so true! Sleeping with makeup on is the quickest way to bad skin x Tiffany Tales | Beauty & Lifestyle
Totally agree! x
Such a great post! Lucky enough, I didn't make all of these mistakes, I didn't do the orange foundation or I didn't sleep with my makeup on for instance yet, I do vividly remember the little eyeshadow sponge applicators and let's just say that, when I was wearing eyeshadow, it was a pretty intense look! As I tend to enhance my natural features more than anything at the moment, I do hope that I will not regret my beauty choices in 10 years times yet we never know, some trends like the brown lips one might have faded away since then... http://fannyanddailybeauty.com
When I was a teenager, there weren't many foundation shades and I'd use one foundation till it finished, which means using a dark summer shade in winter as well then you can imagine how ridiculous I was looking :)
I can totally relate! I would line my waterline with back pencil, I thought that made me look 10 times better. I would pile on the eyeshadow. Blending? what is that? And my face would be as orange as a carrot haha Vanessa x | www.springlilies.com
I'd line my eyes so much that at the end of the day, I'd look like a drug addict :/ x
Great post! I haven't done too many of these, I was just too afraid to do anything that was irreversible xxx ALittleKiran | Bloglovin
That's great :) x
Yeap Thin brows! I did it and now i am paying for it as I can't get them to grow back ..thanks god for crayon! and eye shadow too....I didn't do the rest ..haha! great post. http://allornothing-blog.blogspot.co.uk/
I can't seem to grow back my brows either, there's always some hairless bits :(
Thanks god for brow pencil . x
Thin brows is one for me too! It's taking ages to get my brows back and I wish I had never over-plucked them. xo, Liz http://lipstickandconfetti.com
After years, I still couldn't get the full thickness of my brows, I wish I hadn't over plucked them! x
Actually I don't really have any beauty regrets and I'm especially glad I've never plucked my brows! 10-15 years ago I wore very minimal makeup, so there wasn't much room for error. I definitely remember the time when people thought foundation was supposed to make you look tan (I used to think so too, but luckily didn't wear any foundation back then). http://carolinapage.eu
I only had one foundation for summer and winter so when I got lighter in winter, I'd still wear that dark foundation that looked weird. I can't believe why I haven't noticed that earlier!
Oh gosh I really regret overplucking my eyebrows and abusing my black eyeliner, I always looked sleep deprived http://technicolor-heart.blogspot.com/
Overplucking is the worst :(
This was such a great post Ela, so unique, I loved it! I have definitely looked back on pictures and thought what the hell was I doing! Sometimes now when I post things on Instagram, I wonder if I'm going to hate the make-up in a year lol. I can definitely relate to not being able to find the right foundation shade. I used to literally pick the shade name that I liked the most haha!! To be fair I was only 15, so that makes me feel the tiniest bit better. Oh and my whole pimple situation in secondary school was a problem. I couldn't help myself but to pop them lol.xx - www.veebzboo.com - www.youtube.com/veebzboo - Metallic Blue Smoky Eye Tutorial
Aww thank you so much, gorgeous :) In summer I'd get so tanned that the foundation I got in summer would look so dark on me in winter and I'd still cary on wearing it... Bad times! xx
I'm guilty of every single one of these : / Rhi x www.rinkydinkyrhi.com
Let's hope we don't make the same mistakes again :) x
Oh my gosh I have committed so many of these beauty blunders! I seriously used to pile on the silver eye shadow and wear a purple iridescent lip (at the same time! LOL). Oh and I used to dye my hair on my own and seriously ruined it for a long time because of that. Thanks for sharing - such a fun post! :D xx Lauren Blame it on Barneys http://www.blameitonbarneys.com/
Silver and purple... Quite risky combination :p Trying to go from black to caramel is not something I should try to do at home... Disaster ha ha :) x
I definitely second some of these, haha such a fun read! Orange foundation, way too thin eyebrows and eyeshadow that's not blended. It's crazy how much makeup has developed the past 10-15 years. Now everyone can be a makeup artist! Xx www.thefashionfolks.com
I hope non of these things will come back as a trend... I am not ready for it! x
Brilliant post! When I look back at some old photos, I just wished I owned a decent blending brush! Also it was fake tan central! lol! xx Beautylymin| Urban Decay Bundle Giveaway
Fake tan... everyone was doing it! x
Dark foundation, popping my pimples and using way to harsh products on my skin. Linda, Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking
I wish we hadn't learnt the things the hard way :)
At least we learned, some people never do.
I don't remember using too orange foundation and I got the hang of blending my eyeshadows, though not very well, quite early but the brows, OMG! the brows were not existent, haha! x Mummy's Beauty Corner
Brows is the biggest mistake, my brows looked like someone tried to draw a really thin line xx
Wrong shades or foundations, over plucking my eyebrows to oblivion are just the few biggest mistakes of my beauty life! LOL! And shameful I still pop my pimples...it's terrible but I can't help myself! :-( Shireen | Reflection of Sanity
I still pop my pimples as well, but not as much :/
OHMIGOD over plucked eyebrows are everyones biggest regret, no? WHY did we ever think that was a good idea?! I've also slept in my makeup a fair few times (mainly drunk!) and my skin always hates me for it! Hayley xo www.frockmeimfamous.com
I hope that really thin brows won't come as a trend anytime soon, I'm really happy with defined brows trend! x
I've definitely been through a few of these, the worst of which was orange foundation and poorly blended eye shadow. I guess it's a right of passage all us makeup lovers must go through. www.themakeupaficionado.com
We had to learn makeup someway and making mistakes as we learn is one of the ways of learning it :)
We've all gone through this.. sadly I sometimes go through some of these even now. The kid in us doesn't die :D
Ha ha totally agree :D
Instead of having foundation that was too orange, I had gotten a Korean BB Cream that was basically too grey and made me look weird and too pale. *cringe* Samantha Series
Uh grey bb cream, it sounds as bad as orange one :O
Ela, I have literally experienced ALL of these catastrophes. I had to giggle to myself as I read each one. I was literally having a mental flashback. http://www.averysweetblog.com/
Looking at old photos is not easy!
My neck and face definitely did not match throughout high school! I had the opposite problem with my brows--I never plucked them so it looked like I had two caterpillars on my face! I still do pop my pimples haha, luckily it doesn't seem to leave a scar on my skin. http://www.beautyfromkatie.blogspot.com
Once in a while I still pop my pimples but then it is not as extreme as it was. I'm sure thick brows looked better than really thin ones!
I'm guilty of still popping pimples sometimes! Haha such a bad habit http://www.myclusterofthoughts.com/
It is a habit that I can't seem to stop as well!
Oh man this was a trip down memory lane. High school was all about that orange foundation. It's amazing how bad the colours were back then, especially since I was so pale too. I don't even want to remember how I must have looked back then. And of course the over plucking of eyebrows. I was guilty of that and thankfully being "blessed" with bushy eyebrows mine weren't forever ruined! Unlike a lot of other people I know! Sxx www.daringcoco.com
Seriously makeup industry wasn't good back then which made us make wrong decisions. I don't have bushy eyebrows so I have to face with that most stupid mistake I made all the time. x
We all can totally relate to this post. Sleeping with make up on is still my biggest regret.
It ruins the skin!
I'm guilty of thin eyebrows. My mum always used to take me to get them threaded and oh my, the eyebrow lady went to town, I think she was competing on whose eyebrows to get thinner, mine or my mums haha. I hated having thin eyebrows, they didn't suit me at all. And sadly over the weekend, two of my spots popped but luckily I quickly applied honey for 20 mins and them rubbed in some vaseline throughout the day. Did the trick in reducing redness. Have a lovely day :) tipscapsule.blogspot.com
Thin brows didn't suit me and I never listen to mum when she said "don't overpluck"! I hope you have a great weekend :)
Ugh the thin eyebrows still haunt me, I looked permanently surprised for YEARS! Makeup Monster
Tell me about it!
I regret wearing SO much black eyeliner all of the time in my teens! x www.ofbeautyandnothingness.co.uk
I always thought adding extra black liner will make my makeup look better! x
Omg I tried to dye my hair red myself once- it did NOT turn out ok!
I can imagine :(
I mostly agree how unacceptable those applications, especially thin eyebrows! On the other hand, I think you can dye your hair on your own if they are not lighter shades than your hair for sure. And I believe you shouldn't really pop your pimples if you're not talking about black spots! You need to treat them with anti acne creams. Kisses, Nazlıgül | New OOTD post - Fall is all over you
Yeah you can dye your hair at home, however, trying to change your hair from black to blonde is not something you should try to do it on your own :)
Ahahah definitely! 😬
Haha so true! Great read xx moorizZLA
Thank you! x
Omg the orange foundation....I feel like it's a stage that everyone has to go through. I go through old photos and the first makeup mistake I see is the foundation. Perfect Shade of Mauve
I don't even want to look at my old photos!
Powder oh powder.. I learned the hard way lol. I learned about blending eye shadow not too long ago. This was a really fun read. Have a great week! :) xo Sauniya | Find Your Bliss ♡
I hope we don't make the same mistakes ever again :) Have a great weekend! x
haha oh no, never. Have a great weekend too :) xo
I was so guilty of over plucking my eyebrows and popping the pimples. I truly regret doing that. www.mydailywear.co.uk
I do too! I thought when I pop the pimple, it will get better sooner!
I've totally partaken in a few of these... haha! Thanks for sharing this list. it was a fun read! Xo, Ellese Rock.Paper.Glam.
Thank you :) x
This is a really interesting post! We've all made (and probably still make!) beauty mistakes that we regret now. I'm lucky I never over plucked my eyebrows! My top beauty regret is the pimple popping, and I'm afraid I still do it to this day... I feel like even though you know it's not going to help, you can't refrain from trying and see it the pimple disappears! I've got quite a few scars because of that, so I need to stop this now. :P Julia x Last post: My Autumn Makeup Look | http://juliaspeaksbeauty.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/my-autumn-makeup-look-2016.html
I still pop the pimples once in a while, however, it is not as extreme as how it was before :) It looks like I will never learn my lesson with that :p x
I love funny posts like these, you're so right about those sponge applicators that came in eyeshadow palettes a few years back! Tia | The 10am Blog
Those sponge applicators were nightmare!
This was really interesting to read. I have had almost all the beauty treats which you mentioned above. I used to pop my pimples and it left so many marks which I regret so badly and I wonder how I used to eye makeup. I dint know what blending was :D I look at my pictures taken back then and question myself like seriously what was I thinking :D -Karishma http://yourbeautyjournal.com/sephora-favorites-beauty-unmasked-set-first-impression-review/
I don't even want to look at some of the old photos, it is a nightmare :)
So many of these points are way too true - Especially when you look back at pictures of celebrities from the 90's and see that their makeup was super white (from too much powder) and super thin, almost invisible eye brows which is essentially the complete opposite of what's in today! I'd have to say that too orange self-tanner would be a beauty regret as well - like snooki from jersey shore! www.lindseyginge.com
Super thin brows... why anyone would make it a trend!
Omg all of these things I used to do and totally regret them all too! It's funny how things change so much over time! x Emily http://shedoes.com.au
Luckily we won't make the same mistakes again :) x
Over plucking and popping pimples are my two big regrets. It's so hard to have self-control and leave both alone!
Sometimes I can't control myself and pop the pimples but it is not as extreme as it was before :)
Sleep with the Makeup On : this is still my common mistakes lol
I don't do that a lot, only when I'm drunk lol!
I used to wear black pencil in my waterline everyday for about ten years haha! I'm so glad I've seen the error in my ways xx
I'm so glad I don't do it that extreme anymore :) x
I still pop my spots.... I should probably stop doing that... even though looking at them makes me feel a little sick :( Erin || MakeErinOver
I do it once in a while, it is not that extreme but I know I should stop it :/
Hahaha oh the HORROR of my thin eyebrows in my teens! And definitely overdid the kohl eyeliner, to the extent that I didn't even own one up until recently as I spent about 10 years thinking I couldn't be trusted with it :') Claire | Vanity Claire xx
Thin brows... I won't ever do that again! x
Well, I admit that I used to lining the waterline black when I was in middle school.......... I was like a panda haha :') www.stayclassi.com
Ha ha I was the same :)
Definitely a pimple popper as well, it's so difficult to let them just do their own thing haha! For me, it was wearing foundation and powder without doing anything to my eyes hahah. Luckily it was 6 years ago! x Katina Lindaa | www.katinalindaa.com
I still can't stop myself but I'm trying :) x
Bleaching my own hair and overplucking my eyebrows are definitely my biggest regrets! I'm so thankful I didn't permanently affect the follicles and my brows are still full and shapely. Fab post!xx Laura | Laura's Beauty BingeInstagram | Twitter
Lucky you, I can't seem to grow my brows full :( x
I'm fully aware popping pimples is such a bad idea but there's something about it when one appears its the first thing I want to do! Charlotte // www.charlottespicks.com
Uggggh the eyeliner on the waterline! I always used to do that and it made my eyes look terrible! Sharni // www.agirlandgrey.com
