If you have oily skin then you know the struggle of finding a product which will last at least a few hours before turning you into a shiny ball or smudge everywhere. I didn’t have much of a luck with that until a few weeks ago… Now I think I’ve found my holy grail eyeliner and it came to me unexpectedly thanks to Influenster VoxBox. Holy grail eyeliner is Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon and I can’t stop using it!
It was my birthday… 5th January and postman gave me a box which I had no idea where it came from. I wasn’t expecting to receive anything from Influenster and didn’t even receive any emails until the next day so it was kind of an unexpected birthday gift. I’m definitely not going to complain about that! It was a good start to my day. Anyway… Let’s get back to the main topic… Let’s talk about that holy grail eyeliner…
I’ve tried a countless number of eyeliners and I only had one or two that ticked the boxes, but not all boxes. Finding a liquid eyeliner was definitely easier than finding a pencil eyeliner. I tried pencil eyeliners from high-end to drugstore, however, couldn’t find one that actually lasts without smudging. I like Soap & Glory one, however, it starts smudging after 4-5 hours. It would probably last all day for people who don’t have oily eyelids, however, when you have oily eyelids then it gets trickier.
Let’s start with the formula of Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon. This eyeliner is different than any other eyeliner I’ve tried. It has soft gel formula and it just glides effortlessly. It just feels silky smooth. Applying eyeliner has never been that easy. One swipe gives vibrant and intense pigment payoff. You don’t need to worry about having to go over to get more definition. Even though it has gel formula, it doesn’t smudge. After 10 seconds, it sets completely and it gets impossible to remove without makeup remover. If you’re a clumsy person and make a mess when you apply the eyeliner, you will have to make sure you’re quick at cleaning it before it sets. Also if you don’t like the sharp eyeliner and smudge yours, then just be quick at smudging it.
How long does it last? It was still neat after 12 hours wearing it. I tried to smudge it after 12 hours and it still doesn’t move much which is really impressive. Of course, it gets a little easier to smudge due to the oil and day wear, but after a long day, you wouldn’t really be bothered as long as it still looks neat! I’d highly recommend you to checking it yourself. It doesn’t last as long on the waterline and if you like an intensive colour on your waterline then you will need to refresh it. Trying is always free to give try and judge it yourself. If you have oily skin/eyelids like mine then this might be what you need!
There are 12 matte shades in the range from light blue to dark grey. I received Earthquake (dark brown) and Deja Blue (light baby blue). Even though Earthquake is a brown colour, once applied, it looks almost black and I’ve been using it non stop. I usually steer away from brown eyeliners, so it is a bit of surprise for me that I actually like that colour. Deja Blue is light blue which I am using in the waterline to get more fresh, awake look. At the moment I’m not that confident enough to wear it on the eyelid, maybe in spring/summer time? The range has much vibrant colour, however, black is missing… like jet black! If you are a black eyeliner person then this range might be a little miss for you, however, (Iron)y, which is a deep grey, might be worth checking as it is close to black.
So far so good, right? I can’t think of anything bad but maybe one downside. Since it is a twist up eyeliner, you can’t sharpen it. If you like your eyeliner sharp and precise then you will need to find a way to sharpen the tip. Rolling one side on your hand/paper, applying it slowly and a small section at a time or using an eyeliner stencil might be a way of solving that issue. If you are not that bothered about getting 100% precise lines then there’s nothing to worry about.
Is Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon good? It is good… It’s my first Marc Jacobs makeup and I’m really impressed with the brand. Reasonable price, sleek packaging and good quality… The gel in a pencil format is actually really good. You get good pigmentation and the staying power is impressive. Also, the easy application is always a plus.
Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon is £20. I know it is a little bit on the expensive side, however, it’s really worth the money. I always struggle to find an eyeliner that won’t smudge and I had no luck until this one. If you have oily eyelids and have the same problem then definitely give this a try. I already have two other colours added to my wishlist. Staying power of the eyeliner made this one my holy grail product.
Have you tried Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon? What’s your must-have eye pencil? Is there any other makeup product you could recommend from Marc Jacobs beauty range?
I received these products from Influenster for review purposes, but all opinions are 100% honest and my own.
